The Third Planet

Earth is the third planet from the Sun in the solar system and the only celestial body in the universe known to harbor life. Astronomers have estimated that the Earth formed about 4.54 billion years ago, or about 60 million years after the Sun. The Earth is at a distance of about 147.29 million km from the Sun and completes its orbit around the Sun in 365.26 days (the extra .26 of a day is the reason we have leap years!). The earth has one natural satellite, called the Moon.
